How to create a Simple Website without Coding

Image
STEP #1: Choose Your Website Platform You don’t need to learn HTML, CSS, PHP to create a good and functional website. You don’t need to learn HTML, CSS, PHP to create a good and functional website. Before you start thinking about colour schemes, domain name and web hosting, you’ve got to decide what platform you’re going to build your website with. Back in 2011 when I got started with web development, most sites were built using HTML (code) CSS (code) PHP (code) These took a lot of time to learn and were tricky to master (still are). I usually recommend learning coding from scratch but it could take months, if not years to fully master. And even then, you’re probably still not satisfied with the end result of your website. Adding content through HTML and PHP pages would be time wasting and really complicated process. In 2017, most people and organizations use content management systems (CMS) to build and manage their websites.  I’m recommending it, too. W...

Why MACS are better PC's

Image
There is a never-ending debate as to whether Macs are “better” than PC’s. “Better” is of course a subjective term; for instance, while Macs are generally acknowledged to be easier to use, if you’re a long-time Windows user the first time you sit in front of a Mac, it certainly won’t seem that way. In any case, here follows a list of differentiators… if nothing else, these are reasonable arguments as to why you should consider buying a Mac. 1. Macs are actually cheaper in the long run Sure, you can buy a Windows PC for fewer up-front dollars. But the true cost of ownership should be calculated based on not only the acquisition cost, but the residual value after you sell it or  trade it in.  It’s the difference between those two numbers that really tells you what your computer costs to own. When you calculate the cost of ownership in that way, Macs win easily. All you have to do is compare the value of a Windows PC from, say, three years ago (which is often close to...

How to become a Programmer

Image
If you're hoping to become a programmer, you'll probably have to find some creative ways to gain experience and become marketable. Joseph Origho shares some practical strategies for getting your foot in the door. 1: Learn the fundamentals Many people who teach themselves programming have a blind spot when it comes to the fundamentals. The mindset that drives someone to teach themselves programming is one of motivation and the desire to "do something now." This is a great attitude to have! Unfortunately, the desire to learn new things often leads people to run before they can walk when it comes to basic principles. (I know this from personal experience.) This is why a stigma is sometimes attached to self-taught developers. Be sure that you learn the programming fundamentals. This includes variable naming, proper program structure, when something goes in a library as opposed to the application, and so on. The typical "How to program in XYZ" books often g...

Biggest Announcements from GOOGLE IO 17'

Google I/O 2017 keynote, where executives led by CEO Sundar Pichai laid out the company’s future roadmap for Android, Google Assistant, Google Home, virtual reality, and much more. Skydiving Google Glass-wearers, giant phone giveaways, and major hardware announcements no longer rule Google’s biggest annual conference. Instead, the company has settled into a pattern of releasing information about what it’s doing (and what it wants to do) for developers at I/O, instead of trying to wow consumers or the press. You might call that boring , but that’s also a misguided notion, because there was much to glean from Pichai and the rest of the Googlers who presented onstage. So here are the 10 most important takeaways from today’s I/O keynote. ANDROID SURPASSES 2 BILLION MONTHLY ACTIVE DEVICES Android’s mobile dominance hasn’t stopped growing. CEO Sundar Pichai revealed at the keynote’s start that the tally of monthly active Android devices now exceeds 2 billion. That includes smartphones, t...
